HM Hostel Moscow is located in the beautiful and historical Arbat, at the heart of the city. Moscow’s main attractions in the city center can easily be reached on foot. Since we are close to several metro stations, Moscow in its entirety can be reached easily.

The metro of Moscow is claimed by travelers to be the best in the world and is very affordable. However for a fee we provide a pick-up/transfer service for those who wish it.

We offer several maps with route descriptions from various train stations and airports in Moscow to the hostel. You can view, download and print these route descriptions to make your trip as convenient as possible.

About Moscow
Moscow is the largest city and quite beautiful. She holds over 13 million people and plays a significant part in scientific and cultural life of modern Russia. Moscow features the best theaters of the country, plenty of universities, exhibition halls, libraries, and museums. Some of Moscowsí museums are world-famous like the State Tretiakov Gallery, the State Historical Museum and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. The lives of many artists such as poet Marina Tsvetaeva, writer Mikhail Bulgakov, patron of art Pavel Tretiakov were closely tied to the Russian capital.

The Muscovites blandly call their city “gold-domed Moscow”. This name suits Moscow well, since she holds magnificent churches and cathedrals like Saint Basil Cathedral and Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Some of the city temples are so unique, that specialists named the style “Moscow church architecture”.

Some of the unique historical and architectural monuments of Moscow are; The Kremlin, Arbat, Novodevichy convent, Poklonnaya Mountain, and Red Square. The city has changed dramatically since old times, but still it attracts the visitors with the atmosphere of the ancient city that was poetized and glorified plenty of times.

Museums

Tretyakov Gallery
The National Museum of Russian Fine Art, the State Tretyakov Gallery, is one of the largest museums in the world. Its collection ranges from the 10th until the 20th century.

Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts
One of the worldís richest collections of fine arts is treasured in the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, which is favorably located in the very center of Moscow. It is the second, after the Hermitage, largest museum of foreign art in Russia.

Historical Museum
This is the largest historic museum of Russia which was established in 1872 on initiative of the Russian scientific community. Monuments and articles representing the culture and history from all regions of Russia were brought to the museum.

Moscow Kremlin
The Kremlin is situated on the bank of the Moscow River. Its monumental walls and elegant towers, gilded cathedral domes and majestic palaces create this splendid architectural ensemble. Today this large cultural and historic preserve holds several museums that treasure historic relics and priceless works of art.

Museum of Moscow History
This is one of the oldest Museums of Moscow and was established on initiative of Russian scientific community in 1896. The basis of the Museums collection began with the exhibits of the pavilion “Moscow” at the All-Russian Artistic and Industrial exhibition, which was held in Nizhny Novgorod in 1896.

Museum of Oriental Art
The impressive collection of Oriental art is housed in this museum which is located in the very center of Moscow. The pale yellow Corinthian-pillared building is the architectural monument of early Russian classicism. The building was erected in 1821 by Italian architect D. Zhilyardi as  private mansion for the Lunin family.

Museum of Arts and Crafts
This All-Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art was established in 1981. This was the first Russian museum with an extensive collection of ethnic arts, crafts and modern authors’ hand-made masterpieces from all over Russia. The Museum exhibits the best works of Russian craftsmen between the 16th and 20th century.

Museum of Early Russian Art
In the mid 20th century the Soviet authorities finally acknowledged Andrei Rublev to be an outstanding painter and decreed to create the Museum of Early Russian Culture and Art. It was to be established on the territory of St. Andronicus Monastery of the Savior where Rublev spent his last years.

Lenin’s Mausoleum
Both monument and burial-vault, it is the compositional center of the Red Square. There is a crystal sarcophagus in the Funeral Hall of the Mausoleum, which contains the embalmed body of Vladimir Lenin, leader of the Bolsheviks party and initiator of the October revolution in 1917.

Paleontology Museum
Named after Yuri Orlov, it is reckoned among the world largest natural-science museums. Itís origins stem from the Kunstkammer, established by Peter the Great in Saint Petersburg. The Kunstkammer’s collection was comprised of all kind of rarities including teeth and bones of ancient creatures found in different parts of the world.
